We won't- until we all can.
We at National Marriage Boycott are excited that President Obama has made his first symbolic step towards a disavowal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Obviously, our boycott is contingent on the existence of DOMA, and we would like to see this economically and socially unjust legislation repealed as soon as possible. Obama’s actions last week, however, do not constitute death for DOMA. Instead, he has simply ordered the Department of Justice to stop upholding the constitutionality of the clause that defines marriage as between man and a woman. In other words, existent unions in states that allow same-sex marriage will not be contested so long as Department of Justice officials follow Obama’s words. This pronouncement does not constitute a federal sanction of same-sex marriage. National Marriage Boycott will continue to work for federal same-sex marriage recognition and we expect that our supporters will do the same.
