National Marriage Boycott

We won't- until we all can.

Take Action!

National Marriage Boycott has a number of direct action strategies to combat anti-LGBTQ legislation. Don't forget to join the NMB Action Team!

• Help repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

The Defense of Marriage Act prevents same-sex couples from receiving 1,137 federal marriage rights.
• Help pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act would prevent workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Why direct action?

Because it works.

• In December 2009, New York State Senator Joe Addabbo, who had a record of supporting equal rights, voted against a groundbreaking New York same-sex marriage bill. He attributed his no vote to the fact that 74% of the emails/calls his office received were against the bill, and he was therefore voting with “the will of the people in my district.”

• In July 2010, Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle vetoed legislation that would have permitted same-sex civil unions. She justified her veto in part by the fact that 60% of the calls and emails from constituents asked her to veto the measure.

• In Australia in 2008, over 10,000 people rallied across the country for the Same-Sex Marriage Rights National Day of Action. As a result of the pressure stemming from this campaign, the government introduced legislation in November 2008 that provided same-sex couples in de facto relationships the same rights as married couples in areas such as taxation, social security, health care, and employment.

Our elected officials work for us, and we need to let them know what we want.
